WASHINGTON: A strong earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter Scale hit off Papua New Guinea's coast, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said on Monday.
But no tsunami warning was issued after the quake.
The USGS said the quake struck off the coast of Bougainville region at 8:28 am local time Tuesday (2228 GMT Monday), 885 km northeast of Papua New Guinea's capital of Port Moresby at a depth of 33 km.
