Earthquake Strikes Southern Japanese Okinawa Islands www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601080&sid=aqbeAjbbrixUFeb. 7 (Bloomberg) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 was reported struck the Japan’s southwestern Ryukyu Islands, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake was centered 16 kilometers (10 miles) deep about 114 kilometers south- southwest of Ishigaki Island, some 220 kilometers east of Taiwan, the report said. No destructive tsunami was expected from the tremor, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. Japan’s NHK public broadcaster issued a warning of a possible 50 centimeter (20 inch) tsunami in the southwestern Ryukyus.
