news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080903/NEWS0107/309030059Bullet holes were everywhere. The front door was blown out. Shattered glass littered the ground. Advertisement When Bishop Bobby Hilton arrived at his church early this morning he was stunned. “I was just absolutely shocked at what I saw,” he said. Police called Hilton to the Word of Deliverance church in the 11000 block of Southland Road after they say a man unloaded round after round into the Forest Park building early this morning. Police told Hilton the man fired at least 36 shots. Bullets even reached the sanctuary. Damage is estimated at $75,000. Jerry Rains, 29, was arrested just after 1 a.m. on charges he fired a 9 mm handgun from his vehicle into the church, which has been on Southland road for 12 years. Rains was charged with desecration, carrying a concealed weapon and improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle, according to court records. He’s due in court for arraignment Thursday. Hilton said word of the shooting was slowly leaking out to the church’s 2,000 members. Staff started to clean up the mess today, but questions remain about why the church was targeted. “I have no idea who this guy is,” Hilton said. “We have no idea what this could be about.” Police offered some clues, Hilton said. One officer told him that their suspect said he didn’t believe in Jesus, Hilton said, and was “tired of hearing about your Jesus.”
