www.accuweather.com/blogs/news/story/25792/seventh-significant-earthquake.aspAn undersea earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 hit the Indonesian island of Sumatra Friday. This has been the seventh significant earthquake in 2010 with a magnitude of more than 6.0 on the Richter scale, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). An earthquake that ranks in this range is considered strong and can be destructive, according to (USGS). So far, there have not been any casualties or severe damage reported, and there is little threat for tsunami activity. However, the global technology industry may be affected, according to PCWorld.com. The earthquake has halted work at LCD and chip factories in Taiwan. Of those affected is the fourth biggest LCD panel maker, Mei Optoelectronics and the world's largest contract chip maker, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, said a report by PCWorld.com. The products that these companies make are in high demand, but the factories that were damaged by the earthquake only need minor repairs so production should start again soon.
