Just before 8:00 a.m. local time, a strong 7.0 earthquake struck eastern Indonesia Sunday morning.
The epicenter was 285 kilometers (180 miles) southeast of Ternate, on Indonesia's Moluccas island group, and 2,415 kilometers (1,500 miles) east of
Jakarta, the nation's capital, at a depth of 52.4 kilometers (32.6 miles).
No tsunami warning was issued.
Originally reported as a 6.4 quake by the USGS, there were no reports yet of damage or injuries. The quake struck just hours after a 5.9 moderate tremor struck the country's Palau region on Saturday morning.
The 5.9-magnitude earthquake was centered about 361 kilometers (224 miles) north-northwest of Manokwari, a city in the Pacific nation's West Papua province, according to the US Geological Survey.
