In the first trip to Israel by a Clinton Adminiatration Official, United States Secretary of State Warren M. Christopher visoted eight Middle East nations from February 18-25, 1993
Upon his arrival in Israel, Sec. Christopher reconfirmed the special relationship, based on shared democratic values and common interests that exist between Israel and the U.S. Citing President Bill Clinton's determination to make the ties binding our two countries"even stronger and more resilient," the Secretary also reaffirmed the united States' unalateral commitment to Israe's security and it's qualitative military edge, a commitment based on our recognition of Israel's continuing security challenges.
While Christopher was on his way back to D.C., the US was hit by the largest terror event to date in American history.
On February 26th, a truck bomb exploded underneath the WTC in the parking garage, in NYC. The immense blast occured at 12:18 p.m. EDT in the Secret Service's section of the car park. It ripped through three floors of concrete, scattering ash and debri and set off a fire that sent choking smoke and fumes up through one of the 110 storys towers. Six people will killed and more than 1000 were injured.
