The undersea quake struck 187 kilometres west of the capital Honiara at 11:22pm (local time), the US Geological Survey said. It occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres, the USGS said. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre in Hawaii did not issue an alert for the region. An 8.0-magnitude earthquake in the western Solomons in April last year triggered a tsunami that killed more than 50 people and displaced thousands. - AFP
