The Seismological Institute of the University of Chile says the quake hit at 12:12 a.m. (12:12 EDT, 1612 GMT) Wednesday and was centered near the town of Pica, 1,120 miles (1,800 kilometers) north of Santiago. It was 21 miles (34 kilometers) deep. The government's Emergency Bureau says it has received no immediate reports of victims or damage, but officials are seeking word from small Andean towns.
