DEATH VALLEY -- A magnitude 3.0 earthquake shook an area in southern Inyo County near Death Valley National Park at 5:11 this morning, according to the US Geological
Survey. Its epicenter was 14 miles north of the town of Trona, 118 miles west of Las Vegas at a depth of about 2 kilometers.
Also this morning, two small quakes struck the Kern County area but no damage or injuries were immediately reported. The U.S. Geological Survey reports that a quake of 4.1 preliminary magnitude hit at 5:03 this morning, followed by a 3.0 temblor eight minutes later.
Both quakes were centered 14 miles north of Trona (31 miles northeast of Ridgecrest).
This morning's activity follows a series of temblors that hit the area yesterday, including a magnitude 4.1 that struck at 1:14pm and was centered 30 miles northeast of Ridgecrest, and a magnitude 3.3 quake which rattled the boundary area between Kern and Tulare counties at 3:05am yesterday. Its epicenter was 12 miles east northeast of the
town of Onyx, 117 miles north of Los Angeles.
Also yesterday, a pair of small earthquakes struck the Salinas Valley in California's Central Coast region. A magnitude-3.2 quake hit just before 5:00am. A second quake
of the same magnitude in the same location followed two minutes later. The quakes were centered 2 miles southeast of Aromas, 12 miles west of Hollister and 35 miles southeast of San Jose.
A 3.0-magnitude quake struck at 10:40pm Friday near the same area.
A moderate quake struck northern California on Friday. A magnitude 5.8 temblor struck under water off the coast of Humboldt County. That quake hit at 5:42 in the morning about 147 miles west of Eureka.
Also Friday, Yorba Linda residents, who were already on edge after the recent wildfires and mudslide threats, felt a magnitude-3.0 earthquake that rumbled through the area.
The temblor struck at 11:00am and was centered five miles east-southeast of Yorba Linda.
There have been no immediate reports of any damage or injuries from any of the quakes.
