"Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life" (I Timothy 6:19).
I recently read several prophetic words from respected members of the Body of Christ of an imminent calamity coming to the United States. This calamity will affect the entire world. God's servants have been warning for years that judgment is coming to this nation. The message is now of urgency, with little time to prepare. We know that trouble has already come to this nation and more will be forthcoming. With the message of coming calamity must also be one of preparing for how to stand during this time. The message of judgment must go out, but how to endure through the coming calamity must also go forth. I had been praying and wrestling with what to write for the next message. After reading these most recent warnings, it all became clear.
This coming calamity will be difficult for everyone, including God's people. We must prepare ourselves to stand now! It is not difficult to read e-mails of how things are going to be in the future. We can absorb the warnings and then go on with our busy lives. Without question, these messages have been sent by God to wake up a lost world and slothful church! The question must be asked though, what will you do when it is no longer a warning, but a reality? What will you do when it comes knocking on your door! What would you do if the calamity hit today!
The Bible tells us, "A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished" (Proverbs 22: 3). We are called to be sober, alert, watching and waiting unto prayer! We need to be watching for the things which are coming upon the face of the earth so that we can be prepared in the day of trouble! Discussions on preparation usually involve physical preparation, storing up food and necessities, for instance. This makes sense. When we know that an ice storm is on the way, it's a good idea to go to the store and stock up on food, batteries, and other staples. If you have a generator, it's a good idea to make sure it's working properly. However, physical preparations can only do so much.
When the actual calamity hits, you will be left only with your faith in God! No matter how strong you think you are, it will only be the mercy of God that will sustain you! Friends and other Christian brethren are great and much needed. We are told to not forsake, "..................the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching" (Hebrews 10: 25). But, when it gets right down to it, it will be your faith in Christ, and only your faith in Christ, that will keep you! There will be times when others will not be around. It is then you and God alone!
In the coming days we will have to cry out to God with everything that is within us! With the same desperation we cry out to God tomorrow, we need to cry out to Him today! We must redeem the time, "................because the days are evil" (Ephesians 5: 16).
When you see insurmountable suffering, your faith is shaken to its very core. When trials go on for months or even years, your endurance is severely tested. The temptation to believe the lie from Satan that you have been forsaken is agonizing to the child of God. You may say that you've never felt that way. The calamity that is coming will try every man's faith! The testing will be severe and nobody will be exempt!
It's one thing to say I have the victory today, but what about tomorrow when the bottom drops out of this world? What about tomorrow when all you've put your trust in has vanished? What will you do if food is scarce, or even gone? What about friends and family? What will you do when the comforts of home are no more!
Sometimes the answers do not come in the time we would like them to. We spend hours praying and waiting. It is hard when you are the one actually going through the trial. The Bible has warned us what to expect, "..................Here is the patience and the faith of the saints" (Revelation 13: 10). "In your patience possess ye your souls" (Luke 21: 19). It will take faith and patience to stand! Notice it does not say that you will always have everything figured out, that you will always be on top of things! It does not say that things will always run smoothly. It says that you will need to use the faith and patience that God has equipped you with!
This begins with reading, knowing, and trusting the Word of God, "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10: 17). It begins with, ".................faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" (Hebrews 11: 1). You cannot see or touch faith, yet it must be grasped in order to see the evidence of it! It is what you hope for, even though you cannot see it. The evidence is your belief that God's Word is true and that He is able to perform that which He has promised! Though you cannot see the evidence, you must clutch it to your heart, and never let it go!
You have to keep praying! Discouragement may set in, you may feel like giving up, but you have to keep praying! Faith is the evidence of things not seen. You believe in spite of what you see around you. The circumstances around you do not determine faith, nor do they determine you experiencing the presence of God, "Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty" (2 Corinthians 3: 17). It doesn't matter what your situation is, where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. Jesus Christ gives us freedom from all the cares and bondages of this world! When Stephen was being gnashed on with teeth, "...................he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God" (Acts 7: 55-56). As the trials increase in this world, so will the power of God's children be strengthened to do exploits.
We should not think it strange that fiery trials are happening to us. When hope and peace seem so far away, remember the love of God. It was the love of The Father that kept him waiting for the return of his son that had journeyed into a far country. Though the prodigal son had left to have his share of the world, the Father was there to immediately greet him upon his return, no questions asked. When the enemy comes in like a flood, speaking lies that all hope is gone, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." (James 4: 7), and remember the love of your Heavenly Father, "I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry" (Luke 15: 18-24).
Being confident of God's love for us is how we will stand! We will not stand in our own strength, but in the love of Christ, "But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life" (Jude 20-21). If our hope is in anything else, it will crumble to the ground. On Christ the Solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand! "..................know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God" (Ephesians 3: 19). "In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him" (Ephesians 3: 12). "For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh" (Phillipians 3: 3). "Not that we are sufficient of our selves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;" (2 Corinthians 3: 5). "For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory" (2 Corinthians 3: 9).
Get to know your Heavenly Father now. Learn to pray and seek His will. This only comes by spending time with Him. You get to know someone by spending time with them. It is the same way with God! Jesus Christ will provide us the needed strength to get us through any situation we may face, "He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint" (Isaiah 40: 29-31). "Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord" (Psalms 27: 14).
Hard times are here, unemployment, stock market lows, savings losses, homes lost, and a greater calamity is yet coming. But, Jesus has rescued you. He will bear all your pain. Call upon the Saviour now! He is all you need! He will pick you up when life has you down! Give Him your rough times! You are covered by The Blood of The Lamb! The questions are hard in life, but the answer is always Jesus! When the devil tries to get you down, call on Jesus! He is always in every valley we walk through, always listening and always next to you. He will see you through. Get with Jesus today! The time is now!
"Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:" (Isaiah 55: 6). Trust in Him, and He will bring you through everything, both now and in the days ahead.
"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore................." (Ephesians 6: 10-14).
