A best-selling author and Islamic critic says even though the government of Iran will never comply, he's pleased that a federal judge has ordered the Tehran regime to pay $25 million plus interest to the family of an Israeli soldier kidnapped and executed by the terrorist group Hamas in 1994.
Nachshon Wachsman was a 19-year-old U.S. citizen and corporal in the Israeli Defense Forces when he was taken by four members of Hamas. His abduction damaged Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations at the time, as he pleaded on videotape for his life.
Wachsman's mother and six brothers sued Iran and its Ministry of Information and Security, saying Tehran was responsible for the death because it provided training and support to Hamas. Iran has refused to respond to the lawsuit, which comes as no surprise to Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch.
"No, they're not going to pay it; they're going to ignore it. It doesn't make any difference at all," he says. "It's an empty gesture ultimately, but it is in a certain sense a welcome one because it at least puts one sector of the American public square on record as being against the depredations of the Iranian regime, and that's all for good. But it's purely symbolic."
