The survey conducted by Bar-Ilan University on U.S.-Israel ties shows that Israelis have less fondness for President Obama than they have for the United States. The poll also shows that younger Israelis are more skeptical of Obama's policies than older Israelis. Forty-one percent of the older respondents said they believed Obama would maintain friendly relations with Israel, as opposed to only 34 percent of the younger respondents. Richard Hellman is founder and president of the Christians' Israel Public Action Campaign (CIPAC), the Christian lobby for Israel in the U.S. He notes Israel has been burned by its Arab neighbors repeatedly over the years. "Israelis generally have been very forthcoming to try against all odds to make peace with their neighbors -- whether it was Egypt 30 years ago, or Jordan 15 years ago, or the Palestinian Arabs over the last now more than 15-and-a-half years," he contends. "As one Israeli said to me, 'We tried land for peace, and instead we got terror for territory.'" Israelis, according to Hellman, have generally become much more skeptical of their Arab neighbors and have "moved a bit to the right and become more conservative and security conscious," as evidenced by the recent election.
