Ro 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
There have been different commentaries on this verse down through the ages….
The Catholic understanding is that we are now free from the ‘Law’ Itself, (which they say), Itself, (the Law), is sin and death.
And then there is a certain Messianic understanding that has also been promoted that this is in regards specifically to the Rabbinic additions (Takanot) to the Law (Torah) – and while I agree in part that understanding is true and would have been understood (as a secondary understanding) by the 1st century Hebraic readers of this passage of The N.T.; yet, let me say and please consider the following….
This morning when I woke up I believe that YAH showed me that this passage from Sha’ul/Paul has a more basic and obvious understanding….
What is the “Law”/Torah of sin and death in this passage? – And just what is the “Law”/Torah of the Spirit of Live in Messiah/Christ Yeshua/Jesus in this passage?....
The Negative Torah Commands/Mitzvout (the Thou Shalt not murder, steal, etc…) are those Commands that if violated bring Judgment and death….
…While the Positive Torah commands/mitzvout (the Thou Shalt: love, etc…) are those that bring Life and Peace.
So…. As the Letter of the Law/Torah killeth; yet the Ruach/Spirit of the Law/Torah gives Life; and so even as we see in the N.T., that: Love-From-Above/Agapi establishes the Torah/Law – even so….
Those who are in Messiah Yeshua, and allow HIM to work through them, and then they who are abiding in His Strength and Love to walk in and guard the Positive Mitzvout/Laws of Torah –(The: Thou shalt love)….As those positive Mitzvout were written for the Inner-Man. – Yet we note those to whom the negative Mitzvout were written, are those who walk primarily in the outer-man of the flesh, those that are contrary to the Negative Commands of YAH…even those who are walking against those in LAWlessness againt those Commands that are even ingrained in the creation itself….So they cannot then of themselves even beging to keep/guard those things that are in the Spirit/Ruach…Since they are not walking 1st in Love from Above/Agapi in the Spirit/Ruach -(or then consider for example where Tanakh says: The Just shall live by Faith)…for they are walking 1st in their flesh (outer-man) and not by Faith in Love (in the Inner man).
I could define this more clearly in this Email by examples; But I hope you at least get this primary point: I now see clearly now that the “Law”/Torah of the Spirit of Life in Messiah Yeshua is the Torah for and through and in HIS Power and Strength and Love from the Inner-man -(He then working through us “out”) – and that the “Law”/Torah of sin and death are the commands for the outer man – of those struggling to keep the negative mitzvout from the outer man –(those trying to in vain work them out from the “outer man up”!) – In then which position they are operating from itself is in violation and contray to YAH’s Commands in Torah!, even those Commands that are built into the fabric of creation – given for their fallen state!
Pray about it….
Shalom;
